String of Violent Crimes Strikes University District
A late night drive-by shooting in the University District, which left a 21-year-old victim with serious injuries, was the first of five shootings to occur in a 24-hour period between May 3 and 4. As the UW student and sorority member was on her way home from a concert at The Crocodile after midnight, she was shot multiple times while walking on 19th Avenue Northeast.
Police found the victim with gunshot wounds to the chest before she was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where she was listed in stable but serious condition. Officers also found 9mm shell casings on the ground near the scene. According to subsequent reports, the victim’s roommates say she is now recovering.
While the suspect is still at large, police are investigating a potential connection between the shooting and an earlier robbery that happened four blocks away. Both victims described similar possible suspects, though the robbery victim did not completely cooperate with police.
The latest Seattle shooting occurred just before 2 a.m. on May 5, when a 27-year-old man sustained life-threatening injuries after he was shot in Belltown.
